In the conflict between Polyphemus and Odysseus, which is more important: physical strength or intelligence? What makes you think so?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Physical Strength

Explanation:

Odysseus, as a noble Greek warrior, is expected to possess great physical strength, and, in a number of places throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus displays feats of strength far in excess of anything anyone else could do. When he returns at long last to Ithaca, disguised as a beggar, he accepts Penelope's challenge to shoot an arrow through the gaps of twelve axes lined in a row. But this is not the real test of strength; it's the fact that Odysseus is able to string the bow in the first place that shows this. No other man could possibly hope to perform this great feat, and all the suitors fail.

Stabbing out the eye of the Cyclops Polyphemus was another example of Odysseus's enormous strength. He uses a large stake which he needs to lift up all by himself before driving it deep into Polyphemus's eye. And that takes some doing. Also, Odysseus, at the prompting of Tiresias the blind seer, lifts a huge wooden oar and carries it over his shoulder, walking so far inland that people won't know what it is. They'll think it's a winnowing fan. Odysseus can then make a sacrifice to Poseidon, god of the sea and cause of most of Odysseus's trials and tribulations.

Much of what Odysseus does in The Odyssey shows how clever and crafty he is. However, he is one of the most heroic soldiers of the Trojan War. Had he not been physically strong, he could not have held such respect among his men.

Hope this helps, have a great Wednesday!

Imagine your school receives a large donation. The school board is considering three different possibilities for making use of the money: a new cafeteria, a new library, or a new gymnasium. Consider the state of these facilities at your own school, why each is important, and why each does or doesn't need the money for upgrades or repairs. Then, write a letter to the school board explaining your findings and expressing your opinion about which is the best choice to receive the donation.

(If you know the answer please answer my first question)

First, choose two sources from each of the research
documents provided on this page, and summarize each
source below, in your own words. Be sure to include
the title of each source in your summary.

Second Page:Source: “Acceptability of smartphone technology to interrupt sedentary time in adults with
diabetes”
Abstract
Breaking up sitting time with light- or moderate-intensity physical activity may help to alleviate some negative health effects of sedentary behavior, but few studies have examined ways
to effectively intervene. This feasibility study examined the acceptability of a new technology
(NEAT!) developed to interrupt prolonged bouts (≥20 min) of sedentary time among adults with
type 2 diabetes. Eight of nine participants completed a 1-month intervention and agreed that
NEAT! made them more conscious of sitting time. Most participants (87.5 %) expressed a desire
to use NEAT! in the future. Sedentary time decreased by 8.1± 4.5 %, and light physical activity
increased by 7.9± 5.5 % over the 1-month period. The results suggest that NEAT! is an acceptable technology to intervene on sedentary time among adults with type 2 diabetes. Future
studies are needed to examine the use of the technology among larger samples and determine
its effects on glucose and insulin levels.
DISCUSSION
The current study suggests that the NEAT! technology is a feasible and acceptable tool to intervene on sedentary time among adults with type 2 diabetes, who may be unduly adversely
affected by excessive sitting. Participants used the technology for an average of 21 days over a
1-month period and indicated that using the technology made them more aware of how much
time they spent sitting. Furthermore, the majority of individuals agreed that they would use the
technology in the future if it were available, further suggesting NEAT!’s acceptability. As smartphone usage in the USA continues to rise, this ubiquitous technology may provide an opportunity to intervene to improve the health of a large proportion of the population.
CONCLUSIONS
Given the expected rise in the prevalence of diabetes in the USA, as well as the strong detrimental association between sedentary time and insulin or glucose levels, innovative approaches are
needed to break up prolonged sedentary behavior among the large proportion of the population affected by diabetes. The results of this study suggest that the NEAT! technology is an
acceptable tool for use by adults with type 2 diabetes. Additional refinement of the technology
is needed further to optimize improvements in sedentary time, physical activity, and breaks in
sedentary behavior. Examination of longer-term effects of using the technology on glucose and
insulin levels is also warranted.

Read these two paragraphs from a science course, looking for similarities in how the paragraphs are organized.

Light
Light passes through some materials without scattering. We call objects of this kind transparent. Clear glass and clear plastic wrap are two transparent objects. Other objects, such as wax paper or frosted glass, let some light through but scatter or block the rest. These objects are translucent. Then there are opaque objects, which do not let any light through. Opaque objects block all light. Instead, they produce shadows on a surface when an object prevents light from reaching that surface. You are an opaque object. So is a wooden door, a refrigerator, or a moose.

Sound
Sound travels in waves that are produced when something vibrates. Sound waves are invisible—we cannot see the movement of sound through the air with our eyes. Unlike light, sound needs a medium, something to travel through. Sounds can move through solids like walls or clothing, liquids such as water, or gases such as air. Walls, water, and air are all examples of different media through which sound travels.

Both paragraphs describe how a type of energy moves, or travels. How are the structures of the paragraphs alike?

Choose the answer that best compares the structures of the two paragraphs.

Both paragraphs start with a general statement about how the energy form moves—
then they get more specific.

One paragraph is about light and objects that interact with light; the other is about sound.

One paragraph starts with a concept while the other paragraph starts with an example.

Both paragraphs are about a form of energy that we use in our daily lives without thinking about it.

Answer:

Critical reading means that a reader applies certain processes, models, questions, and theories that result in enhanced clarity and comprehension. There is more involved, both in effort and understanding, in a critical reading than in a mere "skimming" of the text. What is the difference? If a reader "skims" the text, superficial characteristics and information are as far as the reader goes. A critical reading gets at "deep structure" (if there is such a thing apart from the superficial text!), that is, logical consistency, tone, organization, and a number of other very important sounding terms.

I also like to have a personal journal so I can write down the way that i feel without taking out my emotions onto other people. When I am down or mad I would'nt ball up my feelings because that would make me feel even worse so to make myself feel better i would go outside to get fresh air and to clear off my mind from whats going on. If it was a person who made me feel these ways I would confront them about it as soon as I feel better and still not in a bad mood because if i came to them in a bad mood it would make the situation even worse, to prevent it from happening I would first calm  myself down by forgiving them instead or just saying "Oh i really truly hate that person with all my life" because that would  makeyou even more mad.

Why are six people living in a geodesic dome on the slopes of a volcano in Hawaii?
Passage: "Right now, six people are living in a nearly windowless, white geodesic dome on the slopes of Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano. They sleep in tiny rooms, use no more than eight minutes of shower time a week and subsist on a diet of freeze-dried, canned, or preserved food. When they go outside, they exit through a mock airlock, clad head to toe in simulated spacesuits. The dome’s occupants are playing a serious version of the game of pretend—what if we lived on Mars?"

Answers

Answer:

The people are living on the slopes of a volcano of Hawaii as a test of what the isolation and experience would be like if people would try to settle on Mars. This is a simulation of what the experience would be like, and is about as close as you can get while still on Earth.

Explanation:

Six people living in a geodesic dome on the slopes of a volcano in Hawaii as they are pretending to live as if they were on Mars.

What do you mean by Dome?

A dome is a huge, circular roof or ceiling with a ball-half shape.

As a test of what life would be like in isolation on Mars, humans are already residing on the craggy slopes of a volcano in Hawaii. This is as near to the experience as you can get while still on Earth, serving as a simulation of what it would be like.

There are other difficulties that people would encounter if they were to dwell on Mars in addition to the requirements for maintaining life. For instance, the temperature drops to minus -100 degrees Fahrenheit at night. Mars also has less gravity than Earth, dust storms, and high radiation levels.

Therefore, They are pretending to live as if they were on Mars.

PLZ HELP ME!!!!!! A Big YearBy Bob KowalskiWould you go to the ends of the earth to see a bird? What if it were a really special bird: one with beautiful feathers, an entrancing call, or a silly dance? What if seeing that one special bird would allow you to win a contest? If that contest doesn't get you on television or win you any cash prizes, would you still do it? For those who participate in the "Big Year," the honor of beating the previous record is the only reward they get or even want.A "Big Year" is a year in which a person attempts to see as many different species of birds as possible within a particular region. For most in North America who participate in a "Big Year," this region is the lower 48 American states, plus Alaska, Canada, and a couple of French islands off the Canadian coast. You may be thinking that looking at birds is silly, but just think about the numbers of the recent record holders and the commitment it takes to get these numbers. One recent "Big Year" winner managed to see 744 birds in one year, missing the record by just one bird. Big Year birders travel by train, plane, boat, car, bicycle, and of course, by foot. They can cover over 150 thousand miles to get numbers of sightings this high. They can also spend a small fortune.Just to clarify, the birds these contestants are counting are the number that they see in a particular year. You see, the contest is based on an honor system. No pictures or other evidence is required as proof of a sighting. Most birders take great pride in their reputation and their abilities to see or hear and then identify a bird. Usually, important sightings of the rare birds needed to get counts in the 700s are visited by hundreds of birders. It is pretty hard to cheat your way to a record-breaking year, but in general, few are interested in cheating. This honesty comes from the fact that most people who want to break such a record know the greatest rewards are not necessarily in winning. Such rewards are in being able to commit a year of your life to doing something you love. Rewards are found in seeing amazing, inspiring creatures like the California Condor or the Magnificent Frigate bird. Rewards also come in spending time with people who, like you, want to spend their time looking to the skies and trees for glimpses of emerald, crimson, or cerulean blue feathered jewels. You don't have to be able to travel a continent to have a big birding experience though. Have a big month. Or a big weekend. Set a personal record, learn to identify the species that live in your part of the world, or try to learn the calls of just two species of birds. You will soon find looking at birds isn't such a strange way to spend your time.Extra! Extra! Backyard BirdingMany schools, families, and young birders across the country participate in the "Great Backyard Bird Count." While not as long as a "Big Year," the "Great Backyard Bird Count" happens every year. It depends on birders and families across the country to watch feeders and other areas in their yards and count the number of birds they see. Unlike the "Big Year," the goal is not to see who can count the most birds. Instead, participants in this event work together to help bird experts get a good idea of how birds are doing. Participants are given checklists and enter their sightings on a website. Called a "citizen-science" project, this event is open to anyone, requires no travel, and happens every year over one weekend in February.Which of the two events described would be best for a beginning birder?
