Camping Without a Phone.

I couldn’t believe it when my parents told me we were spending our winter vacation going camping! They are always trying to get me to go outside more. It seems like my mom is constantly saying, “Brian, turn off the computer!” or “Brian, put down your phone and talk to us!” They don’t seem to understand that I’m in the zone when I’m using a keyboard, so of course I don’t want to stop.

We drove for an hour to Everglades National Park. As soon as we got there, my cell phone stopped working. The precaution I had taken of fully charging it had done no good. I couldn’t get a signal for it. Suddenly, I was facing three days of no contact with the outside world. My little brother, Ben, thought it was amusing, and my mom tried to convince me I’d like it. “You’ll be able to look around more when you’re not staring at a screen,” she said.

“You might have to act like a human being,” said Ben as he started laughing. Then he escaped to the other side of the campground.

We took a hike with a ranger in the afternoon. At first, I couldn’t care less, but after a while I started paying attention. By the end of the hike, I realized there was more action going on in the park than in most video games. It just didn’t happen as obviously.

First, the ranger explained that fires can be beneficial for the Everglades. Lightning starts the fires. The pines and some other trees resist fire, and their branches are too high for the fires to reach. Other trees and plants that try to take over from the pines are lower and get burned away. I could almost envision the fires burning around us while we walked, as if they were on a video screen.

Then we stopped to look at a pile of fur and little bones, apparently left behind by a bobcat. They were probably the remains of a rabbit. The ranger said that bobcats hunt nearly every night and sometimes eat animals as large as a deer. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the action, but we saw some of the results.

Then we saw a wood stork wading and moving its beak back and forth. It was over three feet tall. Because the water is muddy and full of plants, it can’t see the small fish it’s trying to catch. But its beak is very sensitive. When it touches a fish, its beak snaps closed in 25 milliseconds! That’s faster than some computer networks respond when I touch a key.

That night I was exhausted from walking all day, and because I didn’t use enough sunscreen I looked a little like what the ranger called the “tourist tree.” The gumbo limbo tree has reddish bark that peels off, like it got sunburned. Even so, I woke up in the middle of the night, and I was terrified at first because of some mysterious sounds. But then I recognized the barred owl the ranger had described to us earlier that day. It sounds like it’s calling out “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you?” That helped me to relax, so I was able to fall back to sleep.

We spent a lot of time exploring over the next two days. I started to understand the connection between the land and water and animals. In the Everglades, you couldn’t even get rid of the mosquitoes without creating a big change for other animals. Small fish eat mosquito eggs; other fish eat the smaller fish; large fish called gars eat those fish; and alligators eat the gars. If you eliminated the mosquitoes, you might lose some of the other animals higher up the food chain too.

After we left, we talked in the car about the Everglades and how different it was from where we lived. Suddenly, right in the middle of our discussion, I heard a familiar tone from my phone. My friend Jeff was sending me a text. Without thinking, I reached for my phone, but then I put it back down. “Aren’t you going to text back?” asked Ben.

“I will in a little while,” I said. Ben looked stunned. My dad and mom looked at each other and just smiled.

write an e-mail to your friend about the benefits and disadvantages of internet .

Answers

Answer:

Hey, it's your friend here. You might not know the dangers and disadvantages of the internet. A lot of things can happen but also things that are beneficial.

Answer:

Bonjour, bonjour :)

Explanation:

Hi (friend name),

I think you should consider both the positive and the adverse aspects of internet. Although it is filled with valuable information (which one can access easily), internet can also be a significant waste of time if used unwisely. It is nearly as filled with irrelevant and unhelpful information as it is with useful resources. Furthermore, it is easy to spread lies on the internet and to access these lies disguised as truth. The internet is also dangerous for other reasons,  and people can use it to trap unsuspecting users. Additionally, people who are addicted to the net often remain glued to their screens late in the night, interfering with sleep and other activities. In spite of all this, the internet is wonderful for those who know how best to navigate it. It is great both for academic pursuits and for leisure (in moderation, of course). For instance, one can read books and old manuscripts on internet for free, without needing to go to the library! One can also watch wonderful movies and documentaries online. For writers, typing and simultaneously using internet to do research makes the process quite efficient. And internet is also a way to reach many people and to spread a message across continents in little time. This can be both a good and bad thing. As you can see, there are some powerful benefits to internet, which serves as a powerful addition to our daily lives. However, it must be used defensively and responsibly, as all powerful tools.

what does Juliet promise her mother in act 1 scene 3? Romeo and Juliet

Answers

That she will not go after Romeo

Juliet promises her mother that she will consider Paris as a potential suitor and will keep an open mind about him.

In Act 1, Scene 3 of William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," Juliet promises her mother, Lady Capulet, that she will consider Paris as a potential suitor. Lady Capulet discusses the idea of marriage to Paris with Juliet, and while Juliet is respectful and willing to entertain the idea, she does not display overt enthusiasm. Her promise to consider Paris demonstrates her dutiful nature as a daughter in a society where arranged marriages were common.

However, as the play unfolds, we witness Juliet's true feelings emerge as she falls deeply in love with Romeo, a member of the rival Montague family. The promise she made to her mother sets the stage for the ensuing conflict between her family's expectations and her own desires in the tragic tale of love and fate.

Opal's dialogue with her son at the beginning of the story demonstrates verbal irony because
A.
she seems focused on her son's words.
B.
she is extremely bored at the gathering.
C.
Reeve's remarks have not been polite.
D.
Reeve's actions have pleased Opal.

Story:
"Could you be any more polite?" Opal asked her son, Reeve.
Reeve had called his Aunt Millie "hair" as he stared at her elaborate hairstyle.
"It was an accident, Mom," Reeve replied, embarrassed. "I have been good at this party. I have tried everything, including the appetizer."
"Oh, but you haven't tried the lamb stew with pumpkins and pineapples," Opal said. "You will love it."
"Yuck," Reeve said, feeling a little queasy at the thought of the flavor combination in the stew. "Thanks for the tip, Mom. I promise I will love it."

Answers

Answer:

C.  Reeve's remarks have not been polite

Explanation:

Verbal irony is a figure of speech used when a person says the opposite of what they mean. This can be explicit or deducible from the context of the speech or conversation. In the context of the speech between Reeves and his mom Opal, the first question by his mom was a verbal irony as the succeeding narration indicates.

Opal's question, "Could you be any more polite?" is ironical because Reeves was never even polite in the first place. It is interesting to use verbal irony when writing because it helps the reader to apply his sense of reasoning, and appreciate the author's use of words.

EASY BRAINLY:: Do you think changing your habits can make a big impact on Earth? Why or why not?

Answers

Answer:

One person can not change the outcome of the earth it is impossible changing my habit will have no effect because someone else will always cancel me out

Depend on what “habits” you’re referring to. However, if it has to do with current issues(littering, climate change, extinction of animals, etc…)—Then I highly think that changing bad habits can make a big difference. Now why? Simply because those around you will get influenced and the more people speak about such issues(whether on the media or in one’s community) then it’ll open the eyes of many and perhaps some would want to take part. Though there’s still a percentage that probably won’t. But as long as things(in this case “habits”) continue to spread them people will be compelled to follow it.

Who are the suffragettes? What literary device is the author

women for her presentation?

From the book speak

Answers

Answer:

Suffragettes were women who fought for the right to vote. They are mentioned in the book "Speak" through the literary resource called Allusion.

Explanation:

Suffragettes were women who fought for the right to vote, as they believed that once women could vote, they would have political representation that could work for women's rights, which would allow them to live in a more just society.

In the book "Speak" written by Laurie Halse Anderson, we are introduced to a girl named Melinda, who has a hard time maintaining friendships and socializing with the people around her. This affects Melinda's personality and willingness to do any activity. She is excited when she needs to deliver a report on the suffragettes. At that moment, we can see that the author of the book alluded to suffragettes.

An allusion is a literary resource that allows someone, a group of people, a place, or other literary and artistic works to be cited in a text.
