Answer 1

Answer:

Experiences in School - some good and some not so good - shared for others to learn

Some experiences we hope will happen to others

The best experiences I've had when I was asked to talk to classes. These teachers were really interested in stuttering and wanted to help their students. I received postcards and presents afterwards and brought me back my faith in teachers again.

I also took a class in presentation techniques and everyone in class had to make a presentation. The whole class should then comment and grade the presentations. I was deadly nervous, but had a subject I knew a lot about: our museum at home. I took a lot of things to look at, try, feel and to listen to to make them concentrate on other thing but myself and my speech, walked around a lot using body language, remembered the experience about time and had my watch on the table in front of me. When I was finished I was shaking all over. Can you imagine my surprise when I "won" on all items, including my speech? As Russ is always telling us: it's not your speech that counts, it's what you put into it. (Anita Blom, Sweden, September 9, 1999)

Which of the following sentences does not introduce a quotation correctly?
Select one:

-Her older brother, Joe, told me: "She can no longer come to your party tonight. She is
recovering from a cold."

-I received a concerning report about the weather: "Freezing temperatures are expected.
Blizzard conditions are possible."

-The chairman of the board: "We are meeting our goals for the quarter. How should we
best use our profits?"

-This is my favorite expression: "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what
you're going to get."

Answers

Answer:

The chairman of the board: "We are meeting our goals for the quarter. How should we  best use our profits?"

Explanation:

The above sentence does not introduce a quotation correctly.

The quotation mark is known to be a punctuation mark that is used in setting off and representing exact language which was made by somebody else. The language made by the person may be written or spoken. We find the use of quotation marks in fictional work when it is used to designate speech acts.

In the above selected sentence, we see that the colon follows after "the chairman of the board" without clarifying if he is making the statement that follows after the colon.

Walter says that ""there’s another’n at the house now that’s field size."" To what is Walter referring? ""Evidence?""

Answers

Answer:

Walter is referring to a sibling he has who can help work in the fields.

Explanation:

This excerpt is from "To Kill a Mocking Bird," a novel by author Harper Lee published in 1960. The narrator is Scout, a young girl living in Alabama in the 1930's.

In the passage we are analyzing here, Scout has brought Walter Cunningham home. He is a boy from her school who has not passed first grade. Walter explains to Atticus, Scout's father, reason why he has not passed it yet:

"Reason why I can't pass the first grade, Mr. Finch, is I've had to stay over ever' spring an' help Papa with the choppin', but there's another'n at the house now that's filed size."

What does he mean when he says there is another one that is field size? Walter means there is another child, a sibling of his, who can now help as well. "Field size" means the child is now big and old enough to help out in the fields. While he says that, Walter devours the dinner he is served at Scout's house. Helping in the fields is not the only reason why he cannot pass the grade. Walter is poor and malnourished. He has no lunch to bring to school, nor does he have any money to buy the lunch sold there.

any human to another : explain what this poem is trying to say

Answers

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Although there are no options attached we can say the following.

What this poem is trying to say is that relationships between human beings are very important in life.

Yes, the poem Any Human to Another," written by Countee Cullen, refers to the importance of interaction between people.  The author refers to the way the suffering of one individual can affect the mood of another person.

After reading the poem, I could say that in some way or the other, people are connected in many forms. And the suffering of one person can affect many others.

For example, in the second stanza, Cullen writes the following:

"Your grief and mine

Must intertwine

Like sea and river

Be fused and mingle

Diverse yet single

Forever and forever."

This means that when two humans are friends, they are connected in more than evidence ways.

What is ironic about Dom Claud Frollo from the Hunchback of Notredom?

Answers

Answer:

He is the antagonist and he is a mean minister who is the caretaker of Quasimodo. He has intolerance for sin and sinners, commits violence, and claims that he is doing it for God.

Explanation:

Some might call him a religious extremist. He wants to eliminate all of the magic (sorcery) from his people. He thinks he is a good person. It becomes apparent that he wants to kill Esmeralda even though he "loves" her - really it is "lust" her. Eventually, it is understood that he really just does not know how to love others. He finally is able to care for Quasimodo but he ends up with hate in his heart.

The only thing that he can be good to are the animals. He likes animals. He tries to kill Esmerelda and then blame it on Quasi.

In the end, Frollo falls to his death - way down down down and the story is symbolically sending him to hell.

D. Even those who struggle in their lives outside of school have a
responsibility to make an effort with their education.

Answers

Answer:

D. Even those who struggle in their lives outside of school have a  responsibility to make an effort with their education.

Explanation:

In the given passage, President Obama reiterates the importance of education irrespective of one's personal life. This Back to School speech stresses the need for kids to focus on their academic life no matter what circumstances they face in life.

By stating that "none [of the circumstances of your life] is an excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude in school", the President advised the students/listeners that it is important to try to make school work. Thus, the main idea of the excerpt is that everyone has the responsibility to make an effort with their education.

Read this excerpt from "The All-American Slurp." I pulled the strings out of my stalk. Z-z-zip, z-z-zip. My brother followed suit. Z-z-zip, z-z-zip. To my left, my parents were taking care of their own stalks. Z-z-zip, z-z-zip, z-z-zip. Suddenly I realized that there was dead silence except for our zipping. Looking up, I saw that the eyes of everyone in the room were on our family. Mr. And Mrs. Gleason, their daughter Meg, who was my friend, and their neighbors the Badels—they were all staring at us as we busily pulled the strings of our celery. What story element does the author develop in this excerpt?

Answers

Answer:

The excerpt develops the plot about the party to which the family is inserted.

Explanation:

We can see in the excerpt above that the family is part of a social event, such as a party, for example. However, the family is acting in a peculiar way, different from everyone else, which is drawing the guests' attention to them. From this we can see how the excerpt plot intends to develop the events that took place at the party and how this impacted the family.

Answers

Answer:

A strong thesis statement is key to writing a persuasive essay. The thesis statement presents your topic to the reader, provides your opinion on that topic and summarizes the argument you’ll make in the paper by offering evidence for your opinion. A good thesis statement should capture all of these essential details in just one or two sentences. The thesis statement generally appears after a brief introduction of your topic, often as the last sentence of your first paragraph.
